PARLIAMENTARY DEBATE
The National Commission
for civic education in Salaga North has organized a parliamentary debate for
the Salaga North constituency’s aspiring candidates in Fuu a town in the North
Gonja District. The debaters were the incumbent Member of Parliament for Salaga
North Alhaji Alhassan Mumuni of the National Democratic Congress NDC, the
candidate for the convention peoples party CPP Adam Issahaku and the candidate
for the Progressive Peoples Party PPP Abdul Fatawu Abdul Wahab. However the new
patriotic party NPP was not in attendance. In his welcome address the district
director of the National Commission for Civic Education Alhassan Mohammed said
the debate was organized to give room for candidates to sell out their policies
for the constituency and to foster unity among the various parties. He added
that Ghana has come a long way in democracy and so this year’s elections should
also go on peacefully without any form of chaos. Various questions were asked
ranging from education, gender to economy. Each candidate answered questions by
laying down various policies they will put in place to ensure development at
all levels in the lives of the Salaga North people. The debate was in two
rounds and questions asked were issue based. The chief of Fuu who also graced
the occasion encouraged his people to be ambassadors of peace and vote based on
the capabilities of the candidates to deliver their said policies. He said the
three candidates present were all from the Fuu community and if any won they
will undoubtedly represent the community in parliament and bring developmental
projects to them all.
